THE EPSTEIN FILES

You run the Department of Justice. The evidence is coming down the belts toward the press room. Redact it, bury it, deny every request — before any of it gets out the door.

TODAY'S BOARD

HOW IT WORKS

Four belts bring evidence in from the FBI, SDNY, Palm Beach PD and Congress, down toward your desk and the press room behind it. Change belts and fire a redaction up the belt: it blacks out the first file it meets, and a redacted file slides back up the chute to be buried.

Boxes of evidence take two redactions, depositions three. Flight logs are fast. On level 4, the client list comes down: it takes nine. At the Inspector General and the Leak, whistleblowers see your redaction coming and step onto the next belt (twice each), so bait them. On level 14, Trump comes down himself: fifteen redactions, he switches belts, and he fires off posts down the other belts that you have to catch.

After every second level comes the redaction round: a deposition, an email chain, a flight manifest or a page of the birthday book, and twenty seconds to black out every “Trump”. Each round is quicker, with more near-misses. Tap or click the name, or use the arrows and Space. Black out anything else and it costs you. Get every one, and nothing else, for a big bonus.

In the Briefing Room, the Senate Hearing and the Podcast Tour, questions come down the aisles to your podium. Each is edged in the color of the answer it wants: deny the accusations, agree with the softballs, spin the questions about process. The wrong answer is a gaffe, and the question keeps coming.

Buried files send back FOIA requests. Be on that belt when one reaches you to deny it. Run up the belt to grab a distraction: the news cycle freezes every belt for three seconds.

Difficulty. Granny is very slow, with five credibility and longer redaction rounds; Easy is in between. On both, answers at the podium aim themselves at the question nearest you, the one that glows, so you only pick deny, agree or spin. Hard is faster than Normal, and whistleblowers dodge three times. Each difficulty has its own board.

You lose credibility when a file reaches your desk, a FOIA request gets past you, or a redaction flies all the way back to the mail room with nothing to black out. Run out of credibility and the files are public. Beat a boss for a pardon: one credibility back.

Keyboard: ↑ ↓ change belts, Space redacts (at the podium 1 2 3 deny, agree, spin), ← → run along the belt, Esc pauses. Touch: tap a belt to jump to it and redact; drag along it to run; or use the buttons.

Satire. Every file in this game is a cartoon, and nobody in it is anyone.
